Position Title: Mechanical Engineer
Duty Station: Yemen, Aden
National or International Consultancy:    National
Duration: 58 working days distributed across 5 active months with the possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds, satisfactory performance, and continuing need for the position

Academic Qualifications

  • B.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Minimum years of relevant work experience

  • Bachelor’s degree + at least 7 years of relevant professional experience, or Master’s degree + at least 4 years of relevant professional experience, in mechanical/electromechanical infrastructure, including design review, contract support and construction supervision.
  • Demonstrated participation in at least three assignments/projects of similar nature and complexity. Relevant experience should include mechanical or complex infrastructure projects and substantial involvement in design review and/or supervision, technical submissions, QA/QC, testing/commissioning and contract administration. Ability to review technical calculations, drawings, specifications, equipment schedules and BOQs is required. 
  • Experience using computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.), Engineering Programs (AUTO-CAD electrical, OpenPLC, Modbus), and advanced knowledge of web-based management systems.
  • Knowledge of international standards for infrastructure projects and contracts management (ISO standards, British Standards, FIDIC contracts, IEC, etc.) and experience from international donor-funded infrastructure projects. 
  • Experience with port, industrial, cold-storage/cold-chain, RO/water-treatment, pumping, fire-protection or facilities-related mechanical systems. 
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary design and construction teams and liaising with end users and local authorities. 
  • A proven track of excellent communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • Knowledge of UNDP program management and financial procedures and policies. 
  • Knowledge and working experience with UNDP, the United Nations system, and INGOs, particularly with governance and recovery programmes.

  • Fluency in both written and spoken English and Arabic is required
